About the Challenge

I started this project to do just as the title suggests: to challenge myself. I'm a recent photography graduate, and while I've had some freelance work and have taken on a steady portrait studio job, I've found myself extremely unhappy with the lack of work I've been creating that I'm actually passionate about. My area of interest is photojournalism and documentary photography/multimedia projects. Contemporary photojournalism tends to involve the addition of audio and video to create multimedia pieces. With the typical 365 project entailing one new photograph each day, my daily challenge is more open-ended. One day may be summarized in a photograph, perhaps a sound recording the next, or a video recording another day. In doing so, I'm hoping to strengthen my work, get some creativity going, and to have some fun!

***EDIT: As of June 2012, I've started a photojournalism internship up in Michigan for the news website MLive.com and for the Saginaw News and the Bay City Times newspapers. This job is something I'm much more interested in, and I absolutely love it. I think starting this blog project played a big part in my getting to this point; I don't even want to think of the photographic rut I'd be in if I hadn't pushed myself to get out there and keep shooting. I'm ABSOLUTELY going to still complete the 365 project -  the blog will just have an abundance of Michigan-based entries for a while!
